Major Gifts Officer
The Major Gifts Officer will play a critical role in the organization’s development team, focusing on securing and managing significant contributions from high-net-worth individuals. This position is responsible for stewarding, cultivating, developing, and overseeing relationships with existing donors and new prospects in support of RMHCCF’s strategic objectives, especially for the growth of the Cornerstone Society. The MGO will work closely with the President & CEO, the Chief Development Officer, Board Members, and other key stakeholders to identify and engage potential major donors, ensuring they are connected to the organization’s mission and have a meaningful philanthropic experience.
This role requires a strategic thinker with strong relationship-building skills, a deep understanding of donor motivations, and the ability to create compelling case statements and proposals. High-level written and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making, and problem-solving ability, and attention to detail are equally important.
Essential Job Functions |
- Oversee the Moves Management Program to steward and cultivate donors from the moment a gift is made.
- Implement a structured program for fostering strong relationships with targeted individual donor constituencies through the Cornerstone Society.
- Manage a personal portfolio of prospects with the potential of raising major gifts. Solicit and close gifts at all levels with support from the Chief Development Officer and the President & CEO.
- Plan, facilitate and execute Cornerstone Society cultivation events to increase participation and donor engagement; work with Chief Development Officer to manage Cornerstone Society goals and growth.
- In consultation with the Chief Development Officer, annually establish personal goals, objectives, and strategies for major gift fundraising, and regularly assess progress toward goals.
- Proactively reach out to qualify leads through cold calls and emails. Solicit individual prospective donors, when appropriate, and qualify major gift prospects to proactively cultivate additional future gifts.
- Serve as a qualification officer for new leads for major gift prospects and planned gifts from research, prospect tracking tools, and donor database. Work in partnership with Chief Development Officer to build relationships to close major gifts.
- Professionally and clearly articulate RMHCCF’s vision and funding priorities verbally and in writing to prospects and donors.
- Responsible for prospect/donor call coordination and briefing materials associated with activities for potential major donors.
- Ensure proper stewardship and recognition of donors in portfolio.
- Collaborate with the executive team and board of directors to align fundraising efforts with the organization’s strategic goals. Contribute to the development of the organization’s overall strategic plan.
Ancillary Job Functions |
May be asked to support community fundraising events and RMHCCF special events at off-site locations.
Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. |
Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum 3 years’ related experience and demonstrated success in donor identification, cultivation, and stewardship.
Documented success in personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies that use a relationship-building and moves management approach leading to successful gift closure.
Knowledge of databases and their capabilities; Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred
Possess strong office skills and knowledge of general office equipment
Excellent calendar management skills
Strong proficiency of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Valid Florida driver’s license and operable vehicle.
