POSITION SUMMARY

Mead Botanical Garden, Inc. seeks a dynamic and experienced executive who will enthusiastically embrace its mission and lead the organization with excellence. The ideal candidate will partner with the Board of Trustees to develop and execute a vision for the next chapter of Mead Botanical Garden. The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s operations including fundraising; program development and management; financial management; gardens and facilities management; mentoring and supervision of staff (currently 5). The Executive Director is responsible for organizational leadership and communication; managing the Garden’s partnership with the City of Winter Park; cultivating and retaining donors and community partners; calling on potential donors and sponsors, public speaking and supporting trustees in community outreach. The Executive Director is appointed by and reports to the Board of Trustees.


OVERVIEW

Mead Botanical Garden (MBG) is a 48-acre urban oasis in the heart of Winter Park, Florida. Showcasing beautiful flora and fauna in the midst of native plants, nature trails, ecosystems, natural waterways, and habitats coupled with outstanding venues for social and cultural events, MBG is truly an amazing respite and learning laboratory for all ages. Mead Botanical Garden is currently celebrating its 85th anniversary.Owned by the City of Winter Park, MBG is managed and operated by Mead Botanical Garden, Inc., a private 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. Since 2012, Mead Botanical Garden, Inc. and the City of Winter Park have worked together to form a unique and effective public-private partnership. As a result of the passion, commitment, and investment of time and resources by countless volunteers; a visionary and engaged governance board; a strong executive director and hard-working staff; and a supportive partnership with the City of Winter Park, MBG is flourishing. The organization follows sound business practices and procedures, providing a strong financial foundation. Numerous capital and other physical improvements have been made; multiple community partnerships have been established; educational and cultural programs have greatly expanded for all ages; and earned income is growing exponentially. Mead Botanical Garden is making significant progress and showing strong momentum. As it moves to its next chapter, there are many opportunities and paths to move forward and untapped resources available to pursue.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • History of success in a senior management position; nonprofit organization preferred
  • Demonstrated visionary leadership and organizational management
  • Political acumen in working with elected officials, City administration and citizen boards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; and diplomatic communicator with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience working with a nonprofit board
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • A proven track record in fundraising and development
  • Strong business and management skills with good understanding of budgeting and finance
  • Experience in program development and review
  • Proven history of effective staff management, mentoring and development
  • History of positive results in marketing and community engagement
  • Ability to collaborate and work with diverse groups, community organizations and partners
  • Proven competence with technology - “digitally savvy”
