Role Description 

The Community Engagement Specialist will represent the Adult Literacy League’s (ALL) development and fundraising efforts in the areas of communications, Social Media, website, recognition, and special events. In addition, the staff member will be competent with databases and be responsible for maintaining the database for maximum effectiveness. The staff member will work to develop and maintain Social Media, web outreach, and implement an outreach plan to increase volunteer recruitment and community support. 

This individual may not authorize expenditures, enter into contracts, or modify ALL policy. 


Responsibilities 

• Provide project support with Communications & Development Manager / Executive Director on implementation, organization, and correspondence for special events, donor stewardship, and fundraising campaigns 

• Provide Social Media communications and outreach including website updating, design, and maintenance 

• Participation in / organization representation at community events


Expected Results / Outcomes 

• Increased/improved Facebook content and implement use of other Social Media platforms to increase community visibility and engagement 

• Maintain ALL website – regular addition of new content and updating all information regarding tutor training, volunteer opportunities 

• Increase opportunities for ALL staff, students and volunteers to speak to community leaders, service organizations, media and policy makers 

• Generate e-newsletters, annual report and other forms of outreach consistent with ALL branding and focusing on creating new students, tutors, partners, and donors 


Required Skills 

• High School diploma or GED 

• Excellent oral and written communication skills 

• Highly organized with the ability to work with minimal supervision 

• Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams 

• Knowledge of office procedures and administration 

• Strong Social Media and Internet skills 


Preferred Skills 

• 4 year college degree 

• Knowledge of databases 

• Design/graphics skills to maximize Social Media content effectiveness 


Reporting Relationships 

• Reports directly to the Communications & Development Manager 

• Additional interaction as required with Program Manager & Executive Director


Physical Demands and Work Environment 

While performing the duties of this job the staff member is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The work environment is well-lit and open. The work is sometimes performed under pressure when the stress of deadlines occurs. 


Compensation and Benefits

Starting Salary for this position: $40,000 annually
