If you wait until your CEO is leaving, you’re too late. This session covers a broad range of decisions your organization can make before that transition is upon you and helps you lay out the roadmap and roles that will make an eventual transition less disruptive to your mission delivery, staff members, volunteers, and supporters. This session is designed for CEOs and Board Members.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify key decisions and strategies that should be made proactively to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
  • Develop a roadmap outlining roles and responsibilities for board members and staff during an executive transition.
  • Learn how to communicate effectively with stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, and supporters, to minimize disruption and maintain organizational stability.

Instructors:

Julia Burns

Julia began consulting in the early ‘90s with the design of outsourced training programs, went on to become the Management Consulting practice lead for Blackwell Consulting Services in Chicago, and began consulting in Jacksonville, FL in 1999 where she’s concentrated her work on nonprofit organizations. Julia is the author of How To Plan And Execute An Emergency Succession published on Blue Avocado. She is an active volunteer facilitator of racial equity conversations and a board member with 904WARD. Julia holds a BA from Northwestern University and an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Laurie Price

Having served as in nonprofit CEO roles for more than 20 years, Laurie began consulting in 2014. Her recent work with nonprofits has included interim CEO, strategic planning, board development, leadership succession, and employee coaching. She also provides support to foundations' grant making processes. Laurie participates in Leadership Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Women’s Network and is a Community Coach with the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida.
