Description

Developing a robust planned giving program is crucial to the financial stability of any non-profit. This course will introduce you to the concepts and practice of planned giving from a former front-line planned giving fundraiser. You will learn the fundamentals of planned giving: what it is, how it works, how to implement strategies and how it can impact your organization and career.

Note: Intermediate to advanced course. Highly recommended to have had either major gifts or planned giving experience prior to attending the course.

Learning Objectives:

  • Solid comprehension of planned giving vehicles such as bequests, charitable gift annuities, life insurance, retirement plans, and charitable trusts
  • Understand the benefits to donors for making planned gifts
  • Fundamental grounding in the tax and regulatory implications of planned gifts
  • Strategies to develop organizational readiness for a planned giving program with board, staff and donors

Instructor: David N. Torre, Esq.

David Torre is Director of Wealth Planning and Senior Vice President for Seacoast Wealth Management. He leads the wealth planning team and works with ultra-high-net-worth families to craft strategies around estate, financial, and philanthropic planning. David also currently serves as an adjunct instructor at the Edyth Bush Institute at Rollins College where he teaches courses on planned giving.

Previously, David was a Director with Pathstone Family Office, a Wealth Strategist with GenSpring Family Office, and practiced law with a boutique firm focused exclusively in the areas of estate planning, probate, trust administration, and charitable gift planning. David also previously served as Director of Gift Planning at Rollins College, where he was responsible for working with donors to develop philanthropic strategies with complex tax, financial, and legal implications including gifts of fine artwork and endowments.

David currently serves on the board of the Charitable Gift Planners of Central Florida and has served on the boards of the Winter Park Public Library, the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park, and the Central Florida (Community) Foundation.

In addition to being a member of The Florida Bar, David holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), the Accredited Estate Planner (AEP®), the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA®), and the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) designations. David earned his Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs from Rollins College and his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida.

Full participation in this workshop is applicable for 6 points in Category 1.B -Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
