Description
What are the minimal legal requirements of a nonprofit board? And what role should you as a board member play in organizational strategy, governance and/or operations?
This workshop will provide an overview the legal duties of board membership and discuss the primary responsibilities every board member and board should fulfill in order to lead today's nonprofit organization successfully. This workshop is a perfect introduction for new or prospective nonprofit board members and nonprofit CEOs/Executive Directors.

- Explore what is legally expected of board members and the full board.
- Learn the roles and responsibilities of an effective and engaged board member.
- Understand the difference between roles and responsibilities the CEO, staff and the board.

Instructor: Amie Dugan
An accomplished, engaging, and versatile nonprofit leader and consultant, Amie Dugan has nearly 30 years of nonprofit experience, from the grassroots to international levels of the sector. She serves as SVP, Organizational Development, Special Olympics North America, leading a team that fosters the operational and programmatic advancement and excellence of 85 Special Olympics Programs throughout the U.S., Canada, and Caribbean. Some of her specialty areas include Board Governance training & consultation; Executive search, on-boarding, mentorship; organization capacity building; strategic planning; professional & leadership training & development; enterprise risk management; crisis communications; facilitation; curriculum development; business operations/continuity; brand, communications & marketing; fundraising. Amie is a BoardSource certified consultant, member of the Board of Directors of WISE Greater Orlando, and member of the Greater Orlando Organizational Development Network. She has worked for the Walt Disney World Company and the Juilliard School of Music, and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Rollins College, as well as a certificate in nonprofit management, and multiple advanced leadership certifications.
