In this practical, fast-moving hour, Strategic Nonprofit Finance CEO Larry Bomback shares the six financial metrics he uses with organizations ranging from small community nonprofits to $100M+ institutions: Quick Ratio, Net Income vs. Net Cash, Coverage of Restrictions, Liquid Unrestricted Net Assets (LUNA), Days of Cash on Hand, and Board Giving as a % of Operating Budget. Then, rather than stopping at theory, we open the real audited financial statements of a small Florida nonprofit and find exactly where each number comes from on the balance sheet, the income statement, and the statement of cash flows. 

You'll leave the session with a takeaway you can put to work at your very next board meeting: a one-page dashboard format built around a unified income statement — operating revenue above the line, restricted activity below it — with a cash flow reconciliation directly underneath, so your board sees income and cash together, at a glance.

About Our Presenter: 

Larry Bomback is a fractional CFO for mission-driven organizations in moments of crisis or growth. Over the past twenty years he has personally led financial operations at more than a dozen nonprofits across sectors, with budgets ranging from under $50,000 to over $100 million. He is the CEO and founder of Strategic Nonprofit Finance and writes frequently on nonprofit financial management. His book, The Turnaround Trap: Why Nonprofits Fail, How to Save Them, and What Their Collapse Costs Us All, will be published in 2027.
